Week 1 Lesson 4 –  Rocket Launch

Learning Intention

  • Students will learn that energy and air pressure will launch the rocket.

Success criteria

  • Students follow instructions to build and launch a rocket.
  • Students to measure the distance of their rocket travels. Measure using 5 metre intervals marked on netball court.
  • Students work collaboratively to record the launch (iPad) and to measure the distance travelled.

Lesson Outline (T4, Week 1, Lesson 1 & 2)

  1. Students create their own rocket over the holidays and bring it to school in Week 1, Term 4.
  2. Rockets are launched with all Grade 5 grades grades on netball courts.
  3. Students to work in their science group – 1 person launches, 1 person measures distance and 1 person records launch on iPad, then rotate.
  4. Winning student from each grade (rocket which flies the furthest)  have a ‘launch off’ against each other.
